We are all shocked and saddened, and I just wondered, how much hope is there for this baby? I would like to believe that the child will live and be able to have a full life–I know that the likelihood is high that he or she will be significantly disabled….what do you know about this? Thanks.
Thanks for the answers so far; I do plan on doing more web research but I wanted to gather info from those who have experienced it firsthand or knew someone with it, to get real-life research, not just what the medical books/websites say.

My boyfriend was born with spina bifida. It doesn’t affect him at all as it’s very mild; the only sign that he has it is that he has a hole about 2-3mm across at the bottom of his back. This may sound silly, but I was just wondering what that hole led to! Is it all skin at the bottom, or is it leading directly to his internal organs?

My Grandsons pediatrician told my daughter today that it was time to change car seats. He is now 20 pounds and his little feet hang over the edge of his infant carrier.

Since I am fortunate enough to be able to pick him up from day care and spend time with him until his Mom gets off work, I will be purchasing one for my car as well.

Hello I was just wondering what type of insurance you have for your precious spina bifida children. My daughter is 6yrs old has has the worst type (mylomenglocyle). She’s good though she just has little afos on and has some bladder and bowel trouble; so we feel very blessed. We are about to move to texas in the next year or so. My daughter has always had medical care due to shes a military dependant. But thats about to change over the next year or so. We were looking at blue cross blue shield. Also if you don’t mind me asking, how much do you guys pay per month. Thanks in advance.

I went to the doctors today to review x-rays of my hip and spine reviewed and I turns out that I have some sort of spina bifida or something. I can’t remember exactly what she said it was but she said it wasn’t serious. I just had deformed vertabrae in the lumbar region of the spine. But does anyone know what this is or how to deal with the pain?
